چکیده

We investigate the color-locked twin-noisy-field correlation effects in third-order nonlinear absorption and dispersion of ultrafast polarization beats. We demonstrate a phase-sensitive method for studying the twophoton nondegenerate four-wave mixing NDFWM due to atomic coherence in a multilevel system. The reference signal is another one-photon degenerate four-wave-mixing signal, which propagates along the same optical path as the NDFWM signal. This method is used for studying the phase dispersion of the third-order susceptibility and for the optical heterodyne detection of the NDFWM signal. The third-order nonlinear response can be controlled and modified through the color-locked correlation of twin noisy fields.

A Non-Demolition Photon Counting Method by Four-Level Inverted Y-Type Atom

The semi-classical model of atom-field interaction has been fully studied for some multilevel atoms, e.g. Vee, L, Cascade X , Y, and inverted Y and so on. This issue is developed into the full-quantum electrodynamics formalism, where the probe and coupling electromagnetic fields are quantized. In this article, we investigate the full-quantum model of absorption and dispersion spectrum of trappe...

Ultrafast optical imaging of the spin Hall effect of light in semiconductors

We experimentally demonstrate a general optical pump-probe technique to observe the spin Hall effect of light SHEL in an absorbing medium. In essence, a locally confined pump-induced modification of a material’s absorptivity can effectively be used as an induced aperture allowing one to detect the transversely displaced circular polarization components of an incident beam through differential t...

Complete photoionization experiments via ultrafast coherent control with polarization multiplexing.

Photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) obtained from ionization of potassium atoms using moderately intense femtosecond IR fields (∼10^{12}  W cm^{-2}) of various polarization states are shown to provide a route to "complete" photoionization experiments. Ionization occurs by a net three-photon absorption process, driven via the 4s→4p resonance at the one-photon level. A theoretical treatmen...

Ultrafast three-photon counting in a photomultiplier tube.

We demonstrate experimentally ultrafast three-photon counting by three-photon absorption in a GaAsP photomultiplier tube at the wavelength range of 1800-1900 nm, and analyze its sensitivity and time response. Pulse energy of ∼500 fJ is shown to be detectable for ultrafast 170 fs pulses. The presented three-photon counter may serve as a unique tool for ultrafast quantum state characterization as...

Dispersion of nonlinear refraction and two-photon absorption using a white-light continuum Z-scan.

We use a white-light continuum (WLC) Z-scan technique to measure the degenerate two-photon absorption spectrum and associated dispersion of the nonlinear refraction in ZnSe. The spectral components of the WLC source are separated by using a narrow band variable filter to minimize nondegenerate nonlinearities. We observe a change in sign of the ultrafast nonlinear refractive index around 0.7 of ...
